Guadalupe "Wally" Gamboa, 80, of Hereford, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020 in Amarillo, Texas. Celebration of Life Services will be held Monday June 22, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Genesis Church with Pastor Daniel Romero officiating, A private family burial will follow at West Park Cemetery due to COVID-19 and the requirements of the cemetery, the Gamboa family wants to keep everyone safe and healthy. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford. Viewing will be held Sunday June 21, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Wally was born on December 12, 1939 in Sanderson, Texas to Bernadino and Alvina (Sarabia) Gamboa. He married Maria Gamboa on October 9, 1961 in Hereford and has been a resident of Hereford since 1961. He was an active member of the Genesis Church, serving as a Pillar, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, mentor and leader of his church. He was also a volunteer and mentor to the children at West Central Elementary school. Wally worked for Holly Sugar during it's construction year, Farr Better Feeds and was a cable splicer for WTRT for 37 years before retiring. Throughout his life he raised many farm animals. Wally will be remembered as a lifelong learner, thriving to gain new knowledge. He loved supporting teams and activities that his children were engaged in. He loved his family and his church.
Those left to cherish his memories are three sons, Gerald Gamboa and wife Maria of West Palm Beach, FL., Isaac Gamboa and wife Carol of Plainview, TX., and Joshua Paul Gamboa and wife Katherine of Austin, TX.; two daughters Yvette Gamboa of Hereford, TX. and Yvonne Gamboa of Temple, TX.; three sisters Alice Garza and husband Robert and Yolanda Garza and husband Pablo all of Bossier City, LA., and Beatrice DeLoera and husband Jorge of Carrollton, TX.; eight grandchildren, Karis Elizabeth Gamboa, Ian Hunter Gamboa, Mateo Austin Gamboa, Marisa Daneé Sauls, Roman Christopher Rodriguez, Christian Yvette Cadena, Esteban Joshua Gamboa and Santiago Anthony Gamboa; two great grandchildren, Juliana Marie Gamboa and Gracie May Sauls.
Wally is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Gamboa, two brothers, Jamie Gamboa and Freddie Gamboa, two sisters, Margarita Rivera and Letica Barela.
