Gilberto Cervantes, 68, of Hereford passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 in Hereford. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10:00 AM at La Iglesia de San Jose, celebrant will be Father Ramon Molina burial to follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford. Rosary will be both Sunday and Monday evening at 6:00PM at the funeral home.

Gilberto Cervantes was born March 27, 1949 in Durango, Mexico to Andres and Maria (Castanéda) Cervantes. Gilberto married Maria A. Rueda on May 9, 1980. Gilberto has been a resident of this area for 29 years. He worked on a ranch in Dimmitt for 13 years and while living here in Hereford he was employed with Great Plains but is now Green Plains for 17 years as a cowboy and many other job titles. Gilberto rodeoed in his younger days, but he enjoyed attending and watching rodeo's, he liked to dance, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and truly loved playing and nicknaming his grandchildren.

Gilberto is survived by his wife, Maria Cervantes of Hereford; and his children, Lina Hernandez and husband Raul of Madera, CA., Cristina Cervantes, Javier Cervantes and his wife Citlali and Jose F. Cervantes and his wife Elizabeth Flores all of Hereford and Maria de Jesus Cervantes and her husband Yovany Chicas of Kansas City, KS., three sisters, Arcenia Cervantes and her husband Jaime of Los Angeles, CA., Sofia Cervantes and her husband Jesus of Durango, Mexico and Francisca Cervantes and her husband Raul of Washington; three brothers, Ubaldo Cervantes and his wife Carmen of Dumas, Texas, Julio Cervantes and his wife Belia of Los Angeles, CA., and Andres Cervantes and his wife Elizabeth of Los Angeles, CA.; 11 grandchildren.

Gilberto is preceded in death by his parents.
