Geraldine "Gerrie" Schlabs, 89, of Hereford, Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 25, 2021, in Hereford, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Father Nick Gerber as celebrant. Burial will follow at Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Hereford. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. with rosary beginning at 6:00 P.M.

Geraldine was born on October 21, 1932, in Hereford, Texas to Frank and Ethel (Jones) Knabe. She married Charles Schlabs on July 10, 1951, in Hereford at St. Anthony's Catholic Church.   They shared 70 wonderful years together. Geraldine attended St. Anthony's Catholic School in Hereford and graduated from Hereford High School in 1949. She was a homemaker and took great pride in caring for her family. She also kept the books for their farm. Geraldine was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church where she volunteered and was a member of Christian Mothers. She was artistic and enjoyed painting, ceramics, crocheting, and was a seamstress for her family. Many grandchildren received a handmade crocheted scarf or a mailed box of chocolate chip cookies. Geraldine also enjoyed gardening and their fruit orchard. She was a loving wife and mother.

Those left to cherish her memories are husband, Charles Schlabs of Hereford, Texas; children, Margaret Williams and her husband John of Boise City, Oklahoma, Richard Schlabs and his wife Laura of Hereford, Texas, Janette Fowler and her husband Eric of Hereford, Texas, and Susan Stubbs and her husband Billy of Hereford, Texas; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; a sister Joan Strafuss and her husband Carl of Hereford, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ethel Knabe and son, Martin Gerard Schlabs.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church or St. Anthony's Catholic School Endowment, 114 Sunset Dr., Hereford, Texas 79045.
