Gene Walker, 89, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021, in Dimmitt, Texas. Cremation services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Gene was born on July 23, 1932, to Jack and Roberta (Trimmer) Walker in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Gene moved to Hereford from Arkansas prior to beginning grade school and was a graduate of Hereford High School. After high school, he attended Colorado University for two years. Gene worked on mistle sites, in trucking, on oil wells, and in construction since 1964 till retirement as a welder. Gene married Darlene on January 2, 1980, they shared many years and her family together. Gene enjoyed reading, easy listening music, and time spent with family. His greatest enjoyment was traveling with his wife Darlene, they traveled to the Grand Canyon, both United States Coasts, Blue Ridge Parkway, Monument Valley, Yellowstone National Park, and many other beautiful places. Their favorite place to travel to was Yellowstone.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Darlene Walker of Hereford, Texas; son Stephen Harvey of Colorado; daughter Cindy Niles and her husband Terry of Arizona; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren; sisters, Frances "Pug" Jennings of Friona, Texas and Jackie Walker of Hereford, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Roberta Walker, a sister Betty Sue Robinson, and a grandchild Catherine Harvey.
