Gail Melendrez, 65, of Hereford, Texas passed Sunday, January 12, 2020 in Amarillo, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Celebrant Anthony Neusch. Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will begin Wednesday from 10:00 AM -8:00 PM and rosary will begin at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Gail was born January 3, 1955 in Hart, Michigan to Mitchell Joseph and Mamie JoAnn (Bailey) Battice. Gail has been a resident of Hereford since 1970. She was the secretary for St. Anthony's School for 20 years, she was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and was the CCD Sunday school teacher. Gail was very involved with her church and was always willing to volunteer and attend every school function with the children and could still remember their names. Gail was also a homemaker, raising her children and never missing any sport activity her children were involved in, she was their number one fan and cheerleader. Gail was an excellent baker; baking pies, banana nut bread, zucchini bread and her famous tortillas. She enjoyed family gatherings, being outdoors, going on car rides and being the amateur storm chaser. She liked to dog set for her family, playing coin games at the casino, loved her turtles and was an avid Elvis Presley fan. Gail never missed a birthday for her loved ones and always had to have a birthday cake, she was strong in her faith and she loved hard and wore her heart on her sleeve.

Those left to cherish her memories are Pablo Melendrez of Hereford, Texas and her children Augustine Melendrez and Kinzey Wilson of Amarillo, Texas; Fred Melendrez and his wife Patricia of Hereford, Texas; Michael Melendrez and his wife Rasamy of Chicago, Illinois and two daughters Sarah Ozuna and Deborah Larra and her husband Jerome both of Hereford, Texas; six sisters Alice Battice of Shelby, Michigan; Roma Battice, Mary Meza, Frances "Ponce" Zamborowski, Emily Smith and Helen Scripter all of Hart, Michigan and two brothers Phillip Battice of Shelby, Michigan and Clarence Battice and his wife Connie of Lake Odessa, Michigan; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Gail is preceded in death by her parents Mitchell and Mamie Battice; five brothers-in-law Charles Zamborowski, Miguel Meza, Leon Smith, David Ortega and Felix Melendrez and two sisters-in-law Frances Lopez and Belia "Betty" Gutierrez.
