Eugenio "Gene" Porras, 58, a longtime resident of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, in Hereford. A rosary will be recited on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Gene was born on June 28, 1967, in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Mateo and Angelita (Quesada) Porras. He spent the past 41 years in the Dimmitt and Hereford communities. At the age of 19, he joined the Grotegut family and began working on the farm, where he became much more than an employee and was considered part of the family.

Gene enjoyed playing pool, caring for plants, and sharing a cold beverage. He also had a fondness for Harley-Davidson memorabilia and deeply loved life on the farm, especially its sunrises and sunsets. Above all, however, his greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he treasured dearly. Family was always his highest priority, and his presence, laughter, and love for farm life will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Martha Porras of Hereford, Texas; his children, Marc Porras and Jeanette Grando, both of Hereford, Texas; his stepchildren, Brenda Perez of Amarillo, Texas, Janie Rosa of Oklahoma, and Felix Beltran of Hereford, Texas; his five grandchildren, Lealani, Joseph, Angelo, Anthony, and Augustine Cano; and his siblings, Faustino Porras, Ernesto Porras and his wife, Blanca, and Victor Porras, all of Dimmitt, Texas, as well as Ricardo Porras and Margarita Ramos, both of Oklahoma and his Grotegut family, Chris, Judith, Johan, Josef, and Gertrude Grotegut.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by four sisters: Adela, Linda, Gabriela, and Licha.
