Estevan Banegas, 82, formerly of Hereford, Texas passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019 in Schertz, Texas. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10:00 AM at West Park Cemetery with Deacon Rick Mendez officiating. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will begin Monday from 1:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home.

Estevan was born August 4, 1937 in Mexico to Estancio and Rosa (Flores) Banegas. Estevan has been a resident of Hereford since 1960 where he worked at the grain elevators for 10 years. When he began raising his family Estevan set about working in the agriculture fields of Hereford, Texas. In 1983 Estevan moved to Amarillo and became a gardener for many of the Amarillo community; he pursued this endeavor till 2014.

Estevan enjoyed cooking and teaching his grandchildren all the secrets that came with being a great cook. He truly loved gardening; he took every opportunity that was given to him to travel; he enjoyed traveling to see his children when they lived in other states. Estevan was a man that enjoyed life to the fullest, had his way of doing things and his family states that "our dad was a character and ornery in his own way".

Those left to cherish his memory are his children Irene Cordova of Ft. Worth, Texas; Estevan Banegas, Jr. and George Banegas both of Hereford, Texas; Estella Reynero and her husband Carlos of Temple, Texas; Alicia Lopez and her husband Victor of San Antonio, Texas and Ruben Banegas of Bryan, Texas; three brothers Gabriel Banegas of McAllen, Texas; Epifanio Vanegas of Juarez, Mexico and George Benegas of Arizona; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Estevan is preceded in death by his parents, his ex-wife Eva Arrazola Banegas; a granddaughter Clarissa Gamboa; a grandson Emmitt Lopez; a sister Concha Vanegas and a brother Pedro Vanegas.
