Esmeralda "Nelda" Lopez, 75, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, in Amarillo, surrounded by her loving family. A Family and Friend Visitation will be on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. with a rosary service beginning at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Cremation Services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford.

Nelda was born on October 21, 1948, in Wilmer, Texas to Wences Lado and San Juanita (Garcia) Munoz. She met Hector Lopez in Lasara, Texas and they were married on October 10, 1969, in Hereford at St. Anthony's Church. They moved to Hereford in 1971. Nelda was a proud homemaker, caring for her family and home; her children were her number one priority. She enjoyed working on the farm, gardening, planting flowers, and gathering her morning harvest of eggs from the chicken coop. Nelda was a fantastic cook and made the very best homemade tortillas, carne guisada, menudo, spanish rice, eggs and bacon, and an over-easy egg. She also liked to play cards and Loteria with the family, and slot machines at the Casino. Nelda was easygoing and sociable; she enjoyed good conversations with new friends, a good laugh at hers or your expense, and loved her family dearly.

Those left to cherish her memories are husband Hector Lopez of Hereford, Texas; daughter Melissa Rodriguez and husband Robert of Pine Springs, Texas; sons Michael Lopez of Ruidoso, New Mexico; Ben Lopez and wife Mirrian of Vega, Texas, and John Lopez and wife Charlotte of Pampa, Texas; grandchildren, Berrian Lopez, Ben Lopez, Benneth Lopez, Patrick Lopez, Parker Lopez, Paxton Lopez, and Pierce Lopez; sisters, Gloria Acuna of Elsa, Texas, Delia Salazar and husband Richard of Shafter, California, and Thelma Herrera of Lasara, Texas; and brother Arturo Munoz of Chicago.

She is preceded in death by her parents Wences Lado and San Juanita Munoz, daughter-in-law Lisa Lopez, and siblings, Irene Serna, Wences Lado Munoz, Jr., Jesus Munoz, Clara Herrera, and Oliver Munoz.
