Ernesto "Ernie Jack" (Neto) Alonzo, 63, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on July 29, 2026, in Hereford.

Ernesto was born on June 24, 1963, in Hereford to Manuel and Elida (Briones) Alonzo. He was a 1981 graduate of Hereford High School. After high school he moved to Austin, Texas and owned and operated Alonzo Construction.

Ernesto was a talented craftsman who created leather medicine bags, purses, and belts. He also made jewelry and carved wood and rocks into art. He enjoyed fishing, singing, gardening, and yard work. He was also an enthusiastic collector of rocks, arrowheads, and knives.

Ernesto had a strong faith, prayed daily, and took great pride in his Native heritage. He was generous, caring, and trusting of others.

He was preceded in death by his father Manuel Alonzo, Sr.; grandparents, Bacilio and Isidra (Vela) Alonzo and Isaias Delacruz Briones and Carmen (Campos) Briones; niece Tabitha Fuentes; nephew Scott Fuentes; uncles, Eliazar Briones, Estevan Briones, Isaias Briones, Jr., Juan Alonzo, Pedro Alonzo, Tino Alonzo, Aniceto Alonzo, and Thomas Alonzo; aunts Paula Hernandez and Guadalupe Lucio; and his beloved dogs Lilly and Major.

Those left to cherish his memories are his mom Elida Alonzo of Hereford, Texas; siblings, Manuel Alonzo, Jr. (Diana Lucero) of Oklahoma, Cristina Alonzo of Amarillo, Texas, Ruth Gonzales of Amarillo, Texas, Sara Alonzo (Anthony C Mares) of Amarillo, Texas, and Dionicio "Donny" Alonzo of Hereford, Texas; nieces and nephews, Christopher Alonzo, Kevin Alonzo, Johnny Fuentes, Armando Fuentes, Cynthia Fuentes, Brian Gonzales, Timothy Gonzales, Kristen Gonzales, Stephen Paul Alonzo, Michael Juan Orta, Maira Lorraine Orta, and Isaias Alex Orta; 34 great nieces and nephews; two great-great niece and nephew; aunt Maggie Pullen (Larry); uncles Efrain Briones; Elias Briones, and Raul Briones; and best friend Tony Rodrgiuez.

Celebration of Life Service will be on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Central Church of Christ in Herford. Burial will immediately follow at West Park Cemetery in Hereford under the direction and care of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home.

Visitation and Viewing will be on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 2:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
