Elvira Gonzales, 85, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023, in Hereford, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Celebrant Grant Spinhirne officiating. Burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. The viewing will be on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 4:00-8:00 PM and rosary at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Elvira was born on April 18, 1938, in Laredo, Texas, to Antonio and Ruperta (Ibarra) Mendoza. She has been a resident of Hereford, Texas, since 1956. She married the love of her life Anselmo Gonzales on December 29, 1956. Together they had a wonderful life filled with joy and many treasured memories. Elvira worked 38 wonderful years at HISD as a teacher's aide and then she moved to the administration building to help with the bilingual program. She was known by many at HISD as "Mrs. G". She loved to bake, especially her 7-Up cake and another specialty cake that she would not call it by its original name, but named it her "Banana Split" cake, and her famous "World's Best Salad". Elvira was very active in all the catholic churches in Hereford but was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and a past Guadalupana member at San Jose Catholic Church. Prayer and praying the rosary was a big part of Elvira's life. She wanted all her children and even her children's friends to pray the rosary. She enjoyed family gatherings and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. Elvira's greatest love in life was her children and grandchildren; she had a big and selfless heart and gave to those in need. She was the best mother, grandmother, and friend. Her "darling" (Elvira's favorite word) family and friends will miss her presence and her laughter.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Norma Stallings of Corsicana, Texas, David Gonzales and his wife Monica, Selma Gonzales and Anthony Gonzales and his wife Rachel all of Hereford, Texas; daughter-in-law Lori Gonzales and a brother-in-law Alfredo Barrera both of Hereford, Texas; 14 grandchildren, Jacob, Joseph, Riley, Cole, Sam, Goeffrey, and Brandon Gonzales, Ky and Kory Stallings, Reagan Gearn, Brandi Ortiz, Jessica Zallar, Jacque Lozoya, and Aubrey Devin; 12 great grandchildren, Berkley and Bryson Ortiz, Emrie and Azlyn Zallar, Preslie Goyne, Evan and Ayva Lozoya, Jackson and Mason Gonzales, Evion, Andrew and Zachary Gonzales.

Elvira is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Anselmo Gonzales, 2 sons, Robert and Anselmo Jr. Gonzales, a daughter, Linda Gonzales, a sister, Virginia Barrera and a son-in-law, Edd Stallings
