Elva Gamez Garcia, 87, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, in Hereford. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at the Hereford Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ted Taylor and Pastor Noe Diaz officiating. Burial will follow at West Park Cemetery under the direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Visitation and Viewing will be on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Hereford Church of the Nazarene.

Elva was born on November 23, 1936, in Norton, Texas, to Baldomero and Abundia (Peña) Gamez. She is a longtime resident of Hereford. Elva married Maximino Garcia on February 17, 1954, in Hereford. She was a homemaker and an agricultural laborer and a member of the Hereford Church of the Nazarene.

Elva enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb with flowers, vegetables, and fruit trees. She loved music and music was a part of daily life, family gatherings, and singing while cooking. She enjoyed time spent with her family outside, cooking out, traveling, and holidays. She especially loved her grandchildren. Elva was funny, meek, observant, shy, loving, and caring. She was a nurturing mom who gave good advice, had a big heart with open arms and an open home.

Those left to cherish her memories are her sons, Roger Garcia and Eric Garcia, of Hereford, Texas; daughters Yolanda Garcia and Dora Garcia of Hereford, Texas, and Carolyn Berres and husband James of O'Fallon, Illinois; grandchildren, Michael Ruiz (Amy), Jerry Garcia, Jr., R. J. Medeles (Isabel), Oscar Mondragon (Olivia), Abby Moncivais (Marco), Brady Berres, Brianna Berres, and Kayden Garcia,; great grandchildren, Phoenix Ruiz, Damien Espinoza, Avan Espinoza, Sorayah Espinoza, Matthew Medeles, Rhiannon Medeles, Shea Medeles, Zael Moncivais, Azaila Moncivais, Makayla Mondragon, Nico Mondragon, and Rockston Mondragon; brother Josue Gamez, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Baldomero and Abundia Gamez, husband Maximino Garcia; sons Arthur Garcia and Jerry Garcia, daughter Amy Garcia, grandsons Tony Garcia and Matthew Espinoza, brothers Mike Gamez, Fernando Gamez, Refugio Gamez, Leandro Gamez, and sisters Lupe Zapata, Angelina Garcia, Irene Limas, and Antonia Garcia.
