Elida "Lelo" Valdez, 84, longtime resident of Hereford, Texas passed away Monday, September 14, 2020 in Amarillo, Texas. Funeral Services will be Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Victory Family Worship Center at 10:30 AM with Raul Valdez officiating, burial to follow at West Park Cemetery.  Services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will begin on Wednesday from 1:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. Due to the COVID – 19 virus only 50 people will be allowed in the funeral home at any given time, your heath and safety matter to us.

Elida was born August 3, 1936 in Winters, Texas to Samuel and Carlota (Cerda) Valdez. Elida has been a resident of Hereford since 1945. She married Jose Valdez on January 2, 1956. Elida worked and retired from Hereford Independent School District after twelve years of working in the Cafeteria at Tierra Blanca Elementary. She enjoyed sewing and had lots of patterns and material. She liked to bake, specialties to include carrot cake, wedding sugar cookies, and tamales. She had a green thumb and took special care of her plants. Elida loved her family and taking care of her grandchildren, she always greeted them with open arms. Elida was the matriarch of her family; she was dearly loved and will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband Jose, children: Grace Tijerina and husband Juan of Canyon, TX, Isaac Valdez and wife Josie, Cristina Valdez and husband Joseph Woeller, Cindy Balderrama and husband Hector, and Clara Valdez all from Amarillo, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; siblings: Emma Trevizo of Hereford, TX, Omega Mata of Phoenix, AZ, Azael Valdez and wife Ernestina of Hereford, TX, Armandina Valdez of Midland, TX, Omero Valdez and wife Linda of San Antonio, TX, Gloria Balderaz of Hereford, TX, Amelia Garcia and husband Henry of Hereford, TX, and Delia Fry and husband Foster of Amarillo, TX.

Elida has joined her parents, daughter Cristina Valdez, grandson Jacob Isaac Valdez, and brother Samuel Valdez.
