Eldon Owens, 83, of Hereford, Texas passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2019 in Hereford, Texas. Family and friend visitation will be Monday, December 30, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Memorial Graveside will be Friday, January 3, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Quail Cemetery in Quail, Texas. Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford.

Eldon Ray Owens was born on January 13, 1936 in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Virgil and Winifred Lorene (Jones) Owens.  His family owned and

operated an appliance and implement dealership.  Eldon attended school in Carnegie until his parents sold the dealership and purchased a farm in Hereford, Texas.

Eldon farmed with his dad until 1960 when he was inducted into the U.S. Army.  He was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas until he was honorably discharged in 1962.  Eldon returned to the family farm.

On July 13, 1963, he married June Marian Smith.  He worked as the Transportation Director for Hereford ISD for over twenty years.  He retired in 1991 due to health issues.

After retirement, he went on many fishing trips with friends, hunted and also developed a hobby doing woodwork at which he excelled.

After the death of his wife of 53 years, he sold the home and moved to a cottage at King's Manor Methodist Nursing Home.  He became ill and passed away on December 25, 2019 at Hereford Regional Medical Center.

Eldon was preceded in death by his wife June, his parents Virgil and Winifred Lorene Owens, two brothers Virgil John (V.J.) Owens, Ronnie Owens, one sister, Theo Sherman, and one daughter, Kathryn Lorene Owens.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Johnson and husband Ronnie of Dawn, Texas, Terri Underwood and husband Bruce of Gotebo, Oklahoma, one sister, Julie Morris of Hereford, Texas, grandchildren, Kody Underwood and wife Bambi of Gotebo, Tracy Miles and husband Justin of

Gotebo, Oklahoma, Cory Johnson and wife Holly of Hereford, Texas, Justin Lucero and wife Julie of Independence, Missouri, Clarissa Granado of Kansas City, Missouri, Alex and Madison Lucero of Dumas, Texas.
