Edmund Schlabs, 92, of Summerfield, Texas, was called to his eternal home April 25, 2026, in Hereford. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday April 30, 2026, at 10:00 am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Celebrant Grant Spinhirne officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Hereford. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 5:00-6:30PM and rosary will begin at 6:30 PM at the funeral home.

Edmund was born on September 6, 1933, to August and Teresa (Heck) Schlabs in Dimmitt, Texas.

He graduated from Friona High School in 1951 and attended Texas Tech, where he was a member of their 1954 National Championship agronomy team. He earned an agronomy degree in 1955, finishing magna cum laude.

In 1941, he moved to eastern Parmer County with his family, where he began a lifelong commitment to farming. He actively farmed until 2024.

While his days were spent tending the land, Edmund's true harvest was found in the steady and faithful way he cared for others. He was a man of quiet generosity. He could often be found scavenging pawn shops for tools he could gather and donate to St. Anthony's School's annual auction. It was his way of giving and investing in faith and the future.

He had a knack for selecting the best fresh produce. His perfect finds would appear, unannounced, on family members' porches. No note, no need for thanks. They were a simple act of care.

Edmund was deeply devoted to his parents. For most of his life, he willingly and lovingly cared for them, ensuring they could remain in the comfort of their own home.

He was not one to seek attention or praise. In his steady presence and small meaningful acts, he left a lasting imprint. His life reminds us that love does not need to be loud to be powerful.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Raymond Schlabs and sisters-in-law Mary and Geraldine.

Those left to cherish his memory are his brother Charles (Pat) Schlabs, and a host of nieces and nephews: Raymond Jr. and wife Charla Schlabs, Tom and wife Joyce Schlabs, Karen Martin, Barbara Franks, Donna and husband Mike Henry, Melissa Schlabs (late husband Kenneth Schlabs), Cheryl and husband Kevin Johnson, Margaret and husband John Williams, Richard and wife Laura Schlabs, Janette and husband Eric Fowler, and Susan and husband Billy Stubbs.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Anthony's School Endowment Fund.
