On November 7, 1932 Dorothy Fay McLaughlin graced this world with her presence to Earnest and Maxine Smith. Dorothy left her final marks on this world on Saturday, November 14, 2020 in Hereford, Texas. Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Amherst, Texas with Rev. James Price officiating, burial will follow at Littlefield Memorial Park Cemetery in Littlefield, Texas. Arrangements have been entrusted to both Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas and Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas. Viewing will be at Colonial Funeral Home in Dimmitt on Friday, November 20, 2020 from 1:00-6:00 PM. Everyone attending the viewing and the funeral service must wear a mask provided by you. Only 50 people can be in the funeral home for the viewing at any one given time. Your safety and health matter to us.

Dorothy grew up in Marlin, Texas before moving to Muleshoe, Texas with her parents. On May 10, 1956 Dorothy met and married James McLaughlin in Amherst, Texas. Together they had four daughters and one son. Dorothy was a faithful member of Smith Chapel. In 1972 Dorothy moved to Dimmitt, Texas where she worked at Plains Memorial Hospital for 10 years. In 1974 Dorothy and a few others founded Rose of Sharon Church in Dimmitt. In 1982 Dorothy moved back to Amherst and worked at Lamb County Hospital until she retired, to go work with her son, Henry, which she loved doing. Dorothy joined New Hope Baptist Church of Amherst, Texas, being a faithful and active member. Dorothy loved to sing with her beautiful voice, she enjoyed playing dominoes, bingo, and lottery tickets. Her all time favorite love was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Dorothy never met a stranger and welcomed everyone into her home. She was the most trustworthy, honest, Christian, loving friend, mother, and grandmother anyone could ask for.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Henry J. Miles and his wife Marlo of Littlefield, TX., Ola Fay Sherman and her husband Eddie and Debra Robertson all of Dimmitt. TX., Janice Whatley and her husband Nicholos of Hereford, TX. and Patsy Colbert and her husband Joe of Amarillo, TX., and one brother, Jimmie Smith and his wife Carla of Alamogordo, N.M., 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Dorothy is joining many family members in heaven including her parents, her ex-husband and father of her children, James McLaughlin, five sisters, Mary "Tiny" Scott, Geneva Trailer, Ola Mae Smith, Ruby Smith and Shirley Price, and two brothers, Earnest "Bubba" Smith and Billy Ray Smith, a grandson Nickson Whatley, one granddaughter, Annie Marie Robertson and a son-in-law, Rodney Robertson.
