Roger Don Rogers, 80, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, in Plainview, Texas. Cremation services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Don was born on April 30, 1941, in Quanah, Texas to Odis Rogers and Maggie Milligan.  Don was raised on several ranches around Quanah, Texas and has been a long-time resident of Hereford since 1987.  Don was a Bit and Spur craftsman in Hereford for over thirty years. He was a mentor to several and was one of the last true Craftsman. Don had a true passion for horses and was a true cowboy at heart. Don was a cowboy for several feed yards and was a great horse trainer. He worked on several racetracks in his younger years. In 2008 he bought a Harley and rode all around the Texas panhandle. Don also loved to visit historical places and thought it was important for Sharon and his girls to know about history. Don and Sharon would ride down to Quitaque to the Caprock Canyon, they would stop along the way at the historical markers and Don always had a story to tell about the area.

Don enjoyed telling his family about living on the ranches. Don's dad would pack them up and move them to a new ranch and his mom would not say a word about some of the places they had to live. She would tell Don and his little sister Sandra; home Is where the heart is. Don said some of the places were not fit to live in but his mom would fix them up so they could live there. Don also shared a time when him and his dad went to gather cattle on a spring morning. They left the house that morning and it was warm but by noon a cold front had come in and before they got back home it was snowing and cold; him and his dad got frostbite on their ears.

While Don was training horses on the track, He and his family lived in New Orleans, Arkansas, Chicago, Detroit, and Florida. One time Don had to take horses to New York City, he said that drive was a little too much for him, so he stopped transporting them. Don also loved to watch westerns, his favorite movie was Lonesome Dove, he never missed a chance to watch it and every night he watched Gunsmoke.

Don was proud of his girls and the fine ladies they turned out to be and he was proud of his grandkids.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Sharon Elliot of Hereford, Texas; daughters, Alana Rogers of Odessa, Alane Zielinski and her husband Chris of San Antonio, Texas, Judy Rogers of Lubbock, Texas, and Sherrie Rogers of Amarillo, Texas; four grandkids, John Michael Rogers, Sarah Crisman, Brice Rogers, and Patrick Reither; and three great grandkids, Quinten Rogers, Andrew Crisman, and Evalynn Rogers; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Odis Rogers and Maggie Milligan and two sisters Sandra Fraiser and Jo Jackson.
