Dolores Rose Powers, 91, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026. She was born June 1, 1935, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, to Ora “Pete” Fenimore and Nellie Rose Feuerbacher Fenimore.

Dolores attended Shattuck High School and, following graduation, trained to become a stewardess. She went on to work for Pan American World Airways. Her career with Pan Am ended when she married John Clayton Powers on June 1, 1957.

Dolores and John moved to Hereford, Texas, to a registered Hereford Ranch southeast of Hereford where they began raising their family and where the twins were born. They didn’t have money for a bassinet, so their girls were placed in two orange crates with beautiful bedding that Dolores had sewn until they were gifted two bassinets from a man John had provided work for. Afterward they moved to an irrigated farm northeast of Hereford. Dolores devoted herself to her five children and loved being a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing clothes for her children, canning vegetables, cooking, gardening, and especially caring for her beloved rose bushes. She also had a life-long love for Dr. Pepper which she kept stashed everywhere.

Her faith was central to Dolores’ life. She was a devoted member of the Hereford congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. At the age 24, while attending a Bible convention in New York City, she was baptized in the Atlantic Ocean. Throughout her life, she enjoyed sharing her faith with others, particularly by visiting the elderly people and offering encouragement through the Scriptures.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Ora “Pete” and Nellie Rose Fenimore; her husband, John Clayton Powers; her son Michael Derk Powers; her sister, Fairy Louise Barnes; and her niece, Shelli Michaels.

Those left to cherish memories are her son, Mark Dustin Powers and his wife, Linda of Hereford; daughters Valerie May Roberts and her husband, Jim, of Amarillo; Vicky Kay Bowen and her husband, Shawn, of Amarillo; and Sherry Lynn Stephens and her husband, Rogelio, of Houston.

Cherished memories left to her grandchildren, Kami Hamblin and her husband, Ryan; Amber Brown and her husband, Bryan; Brandon Roberts and his wife, Secia; Jessica Comer and her husband, Dustin; and Adrian Burns and his wife, Madellyn; her great-grandchildren, Taylor Hamblin, Harper Hamblin, Kelton Brown, Brecken Brown, Bobby Chase Jr., Alexis Alders, Levi Comer, and Adam Burns; and her great-great-grandson, Haze Robert Alders.

Also cherished memories left to her brother, Ken Fenimore and his wife, Lori, of Florida, and nephew Blake Fenimore.

A memorial service will be held on September 19, at 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Hereford, Texas. Guests may attend in person or on Zoom.

A private family burial will be held at Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the care and direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford.
