Delbert Smothermon, 83, of Hereford, Texas formerly of Dimmitt, Texas passed away Sunday, November 24, 2019 in Amarillo, Texas. Celebration of Life Services will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Frio Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Elam officiating, burial to follow at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dimmitt, Texas. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Family and friend visitation will be Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Delbert was born April 11, 1936 in Olustee, Oklahoma to Thomas Samuel and Vassie Exelina (Cantrell) Smothermon. Delbert was a resident of Dimmitt for 21 years. He married Jackie Winkles on January 3, 1964. Delbert owned and operated Smothermon Ditching, he and Jackie were members of Lee Street Baptist Church of Dimmitt. Delbert and Jackie moved to Easter in 1985 till 2016. In 2016 they moved to Hereford and still reside there. Delbert attended Frio Baptist Church. Delbert was a workaholic. He enjoyed working on all makes of cars, but was a "Ford Man," he loved to rebuild engines, weld, but he truly loved spending time with his family and friends. Delbert was a quite private man, but very compassionate and loving. He was loyal to those who befriended him and never hesitated to help anyone in need and would give the shirt off of his back if he needed too; he was a good listener; a little sarcastic a fabricator and a great problem solver; he loved his dog, Molly and was a secret cat lover. Delbert's CB handle name was "Junkyard Dog." Delbert left his son's a wonderful work ethic.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Jackie Smothermon of Hereford, Texas and three sons Terry Smothermon and his wife Cindy of Easter, Texas; Michael Smothermon and his wife Norma of Indio, California and Mark Smothermon and his wife Tracy of Canyon, Texas; two sisters Dorothy Sheffy of Dimmitt, Texas and Mildred Burnett of Quanah, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and his fur baby Molly.

Delbert is preceded in death by his parents, a son Jason Smothermon; three brothers Hubert, Tommy and Albert Smothermon; three sisters Faye Green, Kate Peek and Eula Faye Martin.
