David Lynn Spain passed away Monday, November 30, 2020 in Hereford, TX, at the age of 66.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at 11:00 AM at the Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home in Hereford, TX.  Dr. Kevin Hull will be officiating. Following CDC guidelines, a face mask is required to attend the service with social distancing appreciated.

David was born March 10, 1954, in Childress, TX to Jay and Wanda (Hadley) Spain. The family moved to Hereford in 1967, where David and his younger brother Kirk were raised.

David graduated from Hereford High School in 1972, and shortly after attended Abilene Fire School to become a certified Fire Fighter.

On July 8, 1978, he married the love of his life, Marva June Rowan. They were married for 42 years before his passing. Together David and his wife had one daughter, Kathryn.

After David completed fire school he moved to Dimmitt, TX, to be a part of the Dimmit Volunteer Fire Department.  In 1973, he moved back to Hereford to be a part of the Hereford Volunteer Fire Department where he served alongside his father, Jay, who was the Fire Marshall for the City of Hereford.

While apart of the Hereford Volunteer Fire Department he earned the recognition of Fireman of the Year in 1981 and 1993 for his Bravery. In 1994, he was elected to the rank of Fire Chief and would retire with this rank in 2000 after serving for 27 years. While apart of the Fire Department David started working at Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative in Hereford, TX, in 1976. He retired in 2014 after 38 years as a staking engineer. He was able to meet many different amazing people who became lifelong friends during this time.

After retirement David and his wife Marva packed up their two dogs and began to travel in their RV across America, just as they had always dreamed. They were able to make amazing memories together seeing parts of the country they always wanted to visit together.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Marva, his daughter Kathryn Winston and her husband Dominique of Hinesville, GA, his parents Jay and Wanda Spain of Hereford, TX, his brother Kirk Spain of Hereford, TX, two aunts Chris Crawford of Tulia, TX,  and Judy Tiner, and friend Joe Campbell of Lubbock, TX, uncle Tommy Spain and his wife Lori of Nacogdoches, TX, two nieces Ashly Adcox and her husband Cassidy of Amarillo, TX, and Trisha Spain of Granbury, TX, as well as numerous lifelong friends. Finally, he is survived and loved by the new joy to his life, grandson Dominique Terry Winston, Jr.
