Darrell Vessel, 62, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023, in Hereford, Texas. Funeral services will be on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Hereford with Pastor Nathan Adams officiating. Burial to follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will be on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, from 3:00-8:00 PM and family and friend visitation will be on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Darrell was born on July 1, 1961, in Houston, Texas, to Morris and Mary Kathryn (Sims) Vessel. He has been a resident of Hereford, Texas, for approximately 29 years. Darrell is a United States Airforce Veteran and served proudly for 10 years. He married the love of his life Silvana Gamez in October of 1985. Darrell has been a correctional officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 27 years; his place of employment up until his death was at the Mechler Unit in Tulia, Texas. Darrell enjoyed weightlifting, exercising, outdoors and taking in as many sunrays as possible; he was an amateur boxer while in the military, so he still enjoyed boxing. He was a Dallas Cowboy fan, he loved singing, hunting, history, and was always up to learning and exploring new things, and he always knew how to make everyone laugh, but above all these hobbies, his greatest love and pastime was his family, his children, and his wife. He loved them deeply and they loved him as well in return. Darrell will be missed by his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Silvana Vessel of Hereford, Texas, his children, Trent Vessel of Lubbock, Texas, and Brett Vessel of Hereford, Texas; his siblings, Stephen Vessel and his wife Kim of Kansas, Oklahoma, Richard Vessel of Houston, Texas, and Mary Elaine Scates and her husband Steve of Conroe, Texas; his mother-in-law, Margaret Gamez of Hereford, Texas; his sisters-in law, Debbie Gonzalez and her husband Armando, and Vonnie Gamez all of Hereford, Texas, and Berna Gamez of Amarillo, Texas, and a brother-in-law, Sonny Gamez of Austin, Texas.

Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Morris Vessel, Jr., his father-in-law, Isaias Gamez and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Gamez.
