In Loving Memory of Danny "Smiley" Castillo
December 20, 1966 – October 31, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Danny "Smiley" Castillo, 58, of Hereford, Texas, who left this world on Friday, October 31, 2025. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Graveside Service will be held on November 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM at West Park Cemetery in Hereford to honor the life of a man who gave so much love, laughter, and light to those around him.

Danny was born on December 20, 1966, in Seminole, Texas, to Joe G. and Angelita (Garza) Castillo. He spent most of his life in Hereford, where he graduated with the Hereford High School Class of 1985. From a young age, Danny stood out—not just for his athletic talent in football and track, but for the kindness and joy he carried with him everywhere he went. He was named La Plata Jr. High's Outstanding Football Player, but to those who knew him, his greatest strength was his heart.

Danny was a gifted carpenter and a dedicated worker, spending years with Amistad Apartments and later as a nighttime supervisor at Arrowhead Mills. But beyond his work, Danny was a true artist and craftsman. He found joy in the simple things—fishing on a quiet day, sketching with care, collecting coins, restoring antiques, and fixing anything that needed mending. He had a way of turning ordinary moments into something meaningful.

Known affectionately as "Smiley," Danny had a presence that could light up a room. His laughter was contagious, his advice always sincere, and his arms always open to anyone in need. He was the kind of man who made you feel seen, heard, and loved. To his family, he was their gentle giant—their Big Teddy Bear.

Danny's memory will be cherished forever by his daughter, Ashley Ann Castillo of Midland, TX; his brothers, Joe Castillo Jr. of Amarillo, Richard Castillo of Hereford, and Gilbert Castillo of Dalhart; and his sisters, Christine Porras and husband Saul of Dumas, Diane Castillo of Hereford, and Estella Rodriguez and husband Augustine of Hereford. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren—Kalena Iris Bautista, Arianna Nykloh Bautista, Nathaniel Adan Bautista, and Nicolas Anthony Bautista—along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who will carry his spirit forward.

He is reunited in peace with his parents; his brother, Augustine Castillo; nephews Blake Castillo and Agustin Rodriguez III; and his niece Daelyn Angel Rose Rodriguez.

Though Danny's time with us was far too short, the love he gave and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His smile, his stories, and his unwavering kindness will never be forgotten.
