Curtis Ray Smith, 63, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021, in Amarillo, Texas. Celebration of Life service will be Thursday, October 28, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Joe Wall officiating. Burial to follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Family and friend visitation will be Wednesday, October 27, 2021, from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Curtis was born November 7, 1957, in Dimmitt, Texas to Fritz Gerald and Marilyn Jean (Ames) Smith. Curtis has been a lifelong resident of Hereford, Texas and was raised in the Frio community. He married the love of his life Raelene Gripp on September 28, 1977. Curtis has been a cattleman for most of his lifetime, he managed R&P Feedyard for 37 years and co-owned it for the last 15 years. Curtis took immense pride in his profession and his job, there have not been many that could out work him.

Curtis' generosity was evident in the community through all the organizations that he supported: FFA, 4H and many others. He was an avid fisherman and loved being at he and Raelene's lakehouse. He loved to feed his family and friends through grilling out and shrimp boils. He was a great host and always up for a gathering. Curtis especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Curtis loved people and people loved him. He was a good neighbor and a wonderful family man. He will be dearly missed by so many.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Raelene Smith of Hereford, Texas, his children, Kip Smith and his wife Liz and Curt Smith all of Hereford, Texas, and Carla Gordon and her husband Kent of Dalhart, Texas; his mother, Marilyn Smith of Hereford, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Cooper Smith, Owen Gordon and Collier Smith; his siblings, Marvin Smith and his wife Suzzie of Brady, Texas, Sue Talley and her husband Rick of Andrews, Texas, and Janis Wade and her husband Alvis of Amarillo, Texas.

Curtis is joining his father, Fritz, in heaven.
