Cruz "Memom" Ybarra, age 78, of Hereford, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2026, surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM at San Jose Catholic Church, with Celebrant Nicholas Gerber officiating. Following the service, burial will take place at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements and services are entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Viewing will be offered on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a rosary and vigil scheduled at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Cruz was born on May 4, 1947, in Sanderson, Texas, to Wenseslado and Gudelia (Yturbe) Villegas. In 1966, she married Eleno Ybarra, the love of her life, at Mission de San Jose Catholic Church in Hereford. She made Hereford her home in 1974.

Cruz worked as a seamstress for Sue Ann's for several years before joining Hereford ISD, where she served in the cafeteria for 33 years and retired from Tierra Blanca Elementary. She enjoyed sewing for the Hereford community until her health no longer allowed her to continue. Cruz found joy in shopping at Wal-Mart and QVC, baking, and was a faithful and active member of San Jose Catholic Church. An Elvis Presley fan, especially of his music, Cruz's greatest happiness came from her family, particularly her grandchildren, whom she known as their "Memom". She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, laughter, and warm presence.

She is survived by two sons, Samuel Ybarra and John Paul Ybarra and his wife Shae, all of Hereford; her siblings, Ben Villegas, Adela Cantu, and Mary Mejia, all of Hereford, and Esau Villegas of El Paso; six grandchildren, Ronnie Ybarra and his wife Sonja, Samuel Ybarra, Jr., John Paul Ybarra II, Brooklyn Ybarra, Josiah Ybarra, and Kaidence Hanks; and eleven great-grandchildren, Sean, Jason, Destiny, Mia, Ezri, Aziel, and Azari Ybarra, Celeste, Adrian, Alex, and Adam Mendoza.

Cruz was preceded in death by her parents, Wenseslado and Gudelia Villegas; her husband, Eleno Ybarra; her son, Arthur Ybarra; and her granddaughter, Salina Suarez.
