Charles Self, 79, of Hereford, Texas passed away Monday, April 29, 2019 in Hereford. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be Thursday at 2:00 PM at Frio Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Elam and Pastor Cliff Hargrove officiating. Arrangements and cremation services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Charles was born February 11, 1940 in Tuttle, Oklahoma to Aubrey Jackson and Opal Mae (Anderton) Self. Charles has been a resident of Hereford for 73 years. He graduated from Hereford High School in 1958, played and loved football. He married the love of his life, Virginia Cox, on February 22, 1959 at Frio Baptist Church. Charles and Virginia recently celebrated their 60 ^th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren. Charles has been a farmer and rancher most of his life; he also did custom harvesting for a few years. Charles was a jack-of-all-trades. He was a member of Frio Baptist Church and a deacon; he loved to work the church nursery; he was a grandfather to lots of other children. Charles was a Charter Member of the Lions Club of Easter. He enjoyed farming, playing cards or any table game at family gatherings; fishing with his son Brent and the grandsons; pheasant hunting, but only for the fellowship and getting to spend time with the guys but above all these he truly loved playing and spending time with grandchildren and his family.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Virginia Self of Hereford; a son Brent Self and his wife Sharon of Dimmitt; two daughters Jenness Rogers and her husband Russell of Harper, Texas and Tori Self of Amarillo; three brothers Leroy Self of Merkel, Texas; David Self and his wife Carol of Hadlock, Washington and Joe Self and his wife Suzanne of Lubbock, Texas and one sister Audrie Stowers of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren Tanner Self and his wife Allison; Shantell Williams and her husband Colby; Tucker Self and his wife Thelma; Jennell and Macie Rogers; Scott Hawkins and Stephanie Crabtree; five great-grandchildren Braden Self, Emery Self, Cainen Williams, Dalton Self and Rylan Self and several nieces and nephews.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers A.W. and Leon Self and a sister Lucile Bolinger.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be given to a favorite charity.
