Celia "Duby" Pena, 55, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Shane Wieck officiating. Burial to follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Visitation and Viewing will be on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the funeral home from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, with the rosary beginning at 6:00 PM.

Celia was born on June 26, 1970, in Acajutla, El Salvador, to Juan Portillo and Teresa de Hernandez Portillo. Celia met her husband, Carlos Pena, in California. They moved to Hereford in 1991 to be near family and were married on December 2, 1991. Celia loved caring for her husband and children and took great pride in being a wife and mother. She was a devoted member of San Jose Catholic Church. Celia enjoyed tending to her vegetable garden, making jewelry and gift baskets, and cooking. She loved Thanksgiving and made the very best Turkey. Celia loved her time the most, spent with her family, going out to eat and to the lake to fish and swim.

She is preceded in death by her dad, Juan Portillo, and father-in-law Dionisio Pena.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband Carlos Pena of Hereford, Texas; mother Teresa de Hernandez Portillo of Hereford, Texas; children, Samantha Hernandez and husband Benny of Amarillo, Texas, Kasandra Trammell and her husband Joshua, Carlos Josue Pena and wife Kristen Pena, and Jacob Pena and girlfriend La'Tavia Stovall all of Hereford, Texas; brother Wilfredo Portillo of El Salvador; mother-in-law Blanca Castillo of Hereford, Texas; and brother-in-law Hugo Castillo and wife Criselda of Hereford, Texas.

Fue una miembro devota de la Iglesia Católica de San José. A Celia le gustaba cuidar su huerto, hacer joyas y cestas de regalo, y cocinar. Le encantó el Día de Acción de Gracias y preparó el mejor pavo de todos. Celia disfrutaba más su tiempo, pasado con su familia, saliendo a comer y al lago a pescar y nadar.

La precedieron en la muerte su padre, Juan Portillo, y su suegro Dionisio Peña.
