Cathy Layman, 74, a resident of Hereford, Texas, who has been in touch with Hereford most of her life passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026, in Hereford. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Frio Country Fellowship Church, with Pastor Marion Turner officiating. Burial will follow at West Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Cathy was born on August 24, 1951, in Breckenridge, Texas. Her parents were Kenneth and Dora (Stoker) Panther. She met and fell in love with her forever soulmate and best friend, Wesley Layman, and the two were married on October 21, 1969, in Hereford, Texas. Together, they built a wonderful life filled with love, family, and service to others.

For more than 35 years, Cathy served as a caretaker for Henry Singleton at San Cristobal Ranch in Lamy, New Mexico. She was known for her compassionate spirit, caring nature, supportive presence, and generous heart. Cathy loved deeply, especially her family and Jesus.

She enjoyed cooking for others, quilting, reading, gardening vegetables and flowers, writing letters, and playing board games with her grandchildren. She taught her grandchildren how to read and do mathematics, and she loved them, all children, and her animals dearly. Cathy never forgot birthdays, important dates, or names. Her presence, laughter, and loving ways will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Wesley Layman of Hereford, Texas; her daughter, Mary Ann Layman Garcia and husband Manuel of Waco, Texas; her son, Victor Lee Layman of Hereford, Texas; three grandchildren, Mateo Manuel Garcia and wife Shelbyrae, Mallia Jade Garcia Ybarra and husband Christian Nathan, and Moannalea Garcia; two great-grandchildren, Lena Garcia and Adam Nathaniel Garcia; and her siblings, Linda Riley of Friona, Texas, Billy Panther and Kenny Panther and wife Wendy, all of Russellville, Arkansas, Roberta Kavalek and husband Scott of South Hampton, New Jersey, and Karen Hinkley of Seattle, Washington.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Forrest Panther, Michael Panther, Joyce Lynn and Daryll Ivan Panther
