Carolina Romero, 92, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023, in Hereford, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 2:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church with Celebrant Ramon Molina officiating. Burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will be on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 3:00 – 8:00 PM and rosary to begin at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Carolina was born on January 4, 1931, in Trementina, New Mexico, to Venancio and Camila (Sanchez) Madrid. She has been a resident of Hereford, Texas, since 1972. She married Celso Romero on May 2, 1946, in New Mexico. Carolina worked for Best Western Hotel in Hereford, Texas, for approximately 12 years. She was an amazing seamstress, cook, especially her homemade tortillas, and an excellent housekeeper. Carolina loved her flowers, gardening, quilting, taking care of others and keeping everyone on their toes. She was a very independent woman, who worked hard and loved her family tremendously. She knew how to change the oil, tires, alternator, and starter on her own vehicle. In the last years of her life, she cherished the time she had with her great granddaughters, Charlotte, and Cheyenne. She was a member of San Jose Catholic Church of Hereford, Texas. Carolina was an amazing role model for many and will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children Archie Romero and companion Betty Sisk,  Zacarias Romero, Carlos Romero and his spouse Remijia all of Hereford, Texas, Cynthia Hamilton and spouse Hoss of Amarillo, Texas, and Anthony Romero and spouse Nacho Avila of Hereford, Texas; her daughter-in-law Lucy Romero of Dalhart, Texas; 3 grandchildren Archie James Romero of Portales, N.M., John Gomez and Cassandra Hirschler both of Amarillo, Texas; 5 great grandchildren Allen Wheeler of Dalhart, Texas, Alexa Wheeler of Dallas, Texas, Charlotte and Cheyenne Hirschler both of Amarillo, Texas, and Patrick Romero of Floydada, Texas; her siblings Pauline Gallegos of Las Vegas, N.M., Esmeralda Saiz and Pete Padilla both of Hereford, Texas; her only surviving cousin Elena Gutierrez of Albuquerque, N.M., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carolina is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Celso Romero, a daughter Hilaria Romero, grandchildren Laura Jo Romero, Peter and Paul Romero and Linda Doreen Romero; and two brothers Jose Madrid, and Adelaido Padilla.
