Candelaria "Candy" Vargas, 82, of Amarillo, Texas formerly of Hereford, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, in Amarillo. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at San Jose Catholic Church in Hereford with Father David Contreras officiating. Burial to follow at West Park Cemetery in Hereford under the direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Viewing and visitation will be on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 2:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, with the rosary beginning at 6:00 P.M.

Candy was born on September 5, 1942, in La Villa, Texas to Candelario and Francisca (Reyes) Suniga. She married Anesimo Vargas on August 19, 1961, and they moved to Hereford in 1962. Candy was a proud homemaker taking care of her husband and children. She enjoyed watching her telenovelas, going shopping, getting her nails done, and being pampered. She liked to listen to Tejano Spanish music, dancing, and talking on the phone with her siblings, nieces, and nephews from out of town. Candy loved spending time with her family, cooking for them and always making sure the grandchildren had a meal before they went home. She was an excellent cook with her family favorites being arroz con pollo and homemade tortillas. Candy loved hard; she always wanted to be needed and was strong and independent.

Those left to carry on her legacy are her daughters, Janie Aguillon and husband Rolando of Hereford, Texas, Frances Martinez and husband Joel, Anita Vargas and husband Kenneth Walker, and Jennifer Vidaurri and husband Rene all of Amarillo, Texas; sons, Rojelio Vargas and wife Socorro of Vernon, Texas, Tomas Vargas and wife Elena of Amarillo, Texas, Anesimo Vargas, Jr. and wife Delma of San Antonio, Texas, and Joel Vargas and wife Dalia of Hereford, Texas; twenty-three grandchildren, Kristie Palacios, Oscar Aguillon, Candy Juarez (Nate), Marissa Martinez, Frankie Martinez(Anely), Adrian Soria (Ashley), Andreina Soria, Andres Soria (Nyah), Anesimo Soria, Jeremiah Vidaurri, Ethan Vidaurri, Roger Vargas, Vanessa Vargas, Tommy Vargas (Cassie), Mark Vargas, Brittany Reyes (Paul), AJ Vargas, Aaron Vargas, Joel Vargas, Crystal Vargas, Candy Vargas, Abbeny Vargas, and Joel Vargas, Jr; sixteen great grandchildren, Bryanna, Kyra, Khloe, Aiden, Zeelin, Alizé, Tre, Aiden, Ava, Kamila, Rocky, Angel, Adrien, Kari, Noel, and Bertha; two great-great grandchildren, Zaila and Elli, her loving cat Mila, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Candelario and Francisca Suniga, her husband Anesimo Vargas, two daughters-in-law Antonia "Tonia" Vargas and Bertha Vargas, two brothers, and four sisters.
