Benito Juan "John B" Castañeda, 69, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2021, in Hereford, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at San Jose Catholic Church with Celebrant Nestor Lara. Burial of cremains to follow at a later date and time. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Viewing will be held on Monday, November 29, 2021, from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home with rosary beginning at 6:00 P.M.

John B was born on February 8, 1952, in Plainview, Texas to Francisco and Cleotilde (Hernandez) Castañeda. John B worked as a truck driver up until retirement and has been a resident of Hereford since 1991. John B loved music, dancing, and playing pool; in his younger days he competed in pool tournaments. He enjoyed cook outs and time spent with his family. He also enjoyed cruising around town with his dog Bubba. He liked to travel and enjoyed weekend trips to Port Lavaca with his kids when they were younger. John B was a quite the jokester and was a collector of Powerpuff Girls. He was also very caring and took care of many of his older friends. John B would help anyone in need, and he always had an open door.

Those left to cherish his memories are his son Joe Castañeda and his wife Ann Marie of Hereford; daughters, Pat Garza and husband Michael of Levelland, Texas and Connie Hernandez and her husband Joe Mendoza of Hereford, Texas; twelve grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; a sister Lela Castañeda of Plainview, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; friends, Sammy and Harold; and his dog Bubba.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Francis Dominguez and Cleo Rodriguez.
