Arthur D. Schreck, Jr. 94, of Hereford, Texas passed away Friday, January 12, 2018 in Hereford. Memorial services will be Monday at 3:30 PM at Kings Manor Methodist Retirement Home in the Lamar Room, with Danny Mize and Dennis Latham officiating, burial will take place at a later date at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dimmitt.

Arthur was born May 13, 1923 in Galion, Ohio to Arthur D. and Norma (Gelsanliter) Schreck. Arthur was a resident of Castro County since 1960 and has been a resident of Hereford for the last 5-6 years. He entered the Army Air Corp in November 1942 at the age of 19 and was assigned to the 44th Bomb Group where he saw combat as an armorer-gunner on a B-24 Liberator. Schreck participated in 25 air raids over the Middle East, Italy, Sicily, North Africa and Germany. For his service, Arthur D. Schreck, Jr. was awarded the EAME Theater Ribbon with four bronze stars, Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Upon his return to the states, Arthur was stationed in Texas where he met and married Lillian Nelson of Estelline, Texas. The couple moved to Galion, Ohio following his discharge from the service. They had three children, Sandra, Linda and Arthur III.

In 1960, the family moved to Dimmitt to be near Lilian's mother and siblings. For the next 48 years, the Schreck's pursued many business ventures, primarily in the food service industry, owning Dairy Queens in Dimmitt and Tulia as well as Burgers-N More in Dimmitt and numerous other retail service businesses.

Arthur was a hard-working, strong faith Christian man. He was a great athlete in his younger day, playing semi-pro football and acting as a golf instructor. Arthur loved his family and was a great husband, father and grandfather.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lillian Schreck of Hereford, two daughters, Sandra Schreck of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Linda Ditto and her husband Mike of Dallas, a daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Silva-Schreck of Napa, California, a brother, David Schreck, 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, a special niece and nephew, Shirley and Rex Easterwood of Hereford and a special great niece, Cynthia Easterwood of McMinnville, Tennessee and a host of other nieces and nephews as well as the family of friends and caregivers at Kings Manor Methodist Retirement Home and Westgate Nursing Home.

Arthur is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Arthur D. Schreck III, 7 brothers and sisters and a granddaughter, Saundra Land-Bell.
