Apolonio "Polo" Murillo, 79, a lifelong resident of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026, in Hereford.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Nazarene Family Church, with Pastor Carol Heartfeld officiating. Cremation services are being handled by Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.

Polo was born on July 10, 1947, in Lamesa, Texas, to Secundino and Amelia (Martinez) Murillo. A true jack of all trades, he enjoyed working with his hands and taking on many kinds of projects, from landscaping to mechanic work. He also worked for several years at Swift Meat Packing Company.

Polo found joy in working on cars, shearing sheep, fishing, people watching, cutting lawns for residents of Hereford, and lending a helping hand whenever someone needed it. He also enjoyed collecting antiques, fixing them up, and giving them away. He was always ready for a good cigarette, a cup of black coffee, and meaningful conversation.

Polo fought cancer with strength and courage until the end, and his family takes comfort in knowing he is now healed in heaven with Jesus. His presence, laughter, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his siblings, Balentin Murillo and his wife, Connie, of Canyon, Texas; Eliseo Murillo and his wife, Maria, of Hereford, Texas; and Carmen Murillo of Hereford, Texas.

He is also survived by his children, Jose Angel Murillo and his wife, Rene, of Amarillo, Texas; Dolores Martinez and her husband, Bobby, of Hereford, Texas; and Elsie Murillo of Amarillo, Texas; along with twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and a special friend, Linda Celaya of Hereford, Texas.

Polo was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Secundino Murillo, Jr.; Pablo Murillo; Trinidad Murillo; Edmundo Murillo; Ernestina Martinez; Amelia Diaz; Maria Ellena Murillo; and Rosa Ellena Murillo.
