Amado "Mayo" Guzman 87, of Hereford passed away Thursday, January 31, 2019 in Hereford.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 2:00 PM at La Iglesia de San Jose Catholic Church with Rev. Ramon Molina officiating, burial to follow at West Park Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford. Family and friend visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 -5:00 PM at the funeral home.

Amado was born March 4, 1931 in Alamo, Texas to Domingo Guzman, Sr. and Cipriana (Martinez) Guzman. Amado has been a resident of Hereford since 1960. He married Rafaela Mata Guzman, the love of his life, on April 14, 1950.  He worked for Easter and Hereford Gins for many years. Amado also sold produce (watermelons) in Florida and in Hereford at the City Park. He began selling watermelons at the City Park in 1971 till 2014. He was a member of La Iglesia de San Jose Catholic Church. His hobbies were watching western movies, exercising, watching football, gardening; Amado was very meticulous about his home and his personal hygiene. He had several hobbies, but his favorites were selling his watermelons and his family. He always wanted to be apart of family gatherings and the love he had for his grandchildren was tremendous.

Those left to cherish his memories are his children, Amado Guzman, Jr. and his wife Lupe of Dumas, Robert Guzman of Florida, Virginia Guzman of Hereford, Juan Guzman and his wife Diana of Hereford, Gonzalo Guzman and his wife Lori of Amarillo, Lily Martinez and her husband Richard, Raymond Guzman and his wife Mary, Raul Guzman, Ruben Guzman and Esmeralda Guzman all of Hereford and Rachel Berumen of Carlsbad, N.M., one sister Hermina Castillo of Edinburg, Texas; twenty-nine grandchildren, sixty-nine great grandchildren and fifteen great-great grandchildren.

Amado is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rafaela Guzman, a grandson Mathew Guzman, a great grandson Derrick Guzman, two brothers Domingo Guzman, Jr. and Thedolo Guzman.
