Alonzo "Zo" Martinez., 57, of Hereford, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday, August 7, 2023., surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 3pm. at Hereford Nazarene Church with Pastor Jacob Larra officiating. Burial to follow at West Park Cemetery under the direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Viewing will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 5:00-8:00 P.M., at the funeral home.

Alonzo was born on May 27,1966 in Dimmitt, Texas to Jesus H. Martinez and Ramona (Rodriguez) Martinez. Alonzo married the love of his life Mariselva (Frausto)Martinez on October 10, 1986, in Hereford, Texas. Alonzo loved the Lord and lived his life as an example of a true servant of the Lord. Everything he did was to glorify his Lord and Savior first. He was a member of the Nazarene Family Church of Hereford. He served on the church board, volunteered for the youth program for many years, attended many church camps, and took mission trips throughout his Christian walk. In 2011 Alonzo was awarded "Christian of the Year" at the Freedom Celebration. When Alonzo wasn't spending time with his family, whom he loved with all his heart, you could be sure he was either watching an Atlanta Braves game or preparing for a 5 or 10K. He was a very motivated and active marathon runner, most in 1st place. He also had a passion for coaching and teaching youth through the YMCA and Kids, Inc. In 2003, while coaching his son Matt Martinez, he took the Babe Ruth team to the South West Regional Championship. He continued coaching long after his children were too old to play. Alonzo never met a stranger, and he will be missed dearly by all that knew him.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of thirty-seven years, Mariselva Martinez; children, Matthew Alonzo Martinez and his wife Paige of Wichita, Kansas, Aaron Joshua Martinez of Friona, Texas, Ciara Faith Fernandez and her husband Angel of Amarillo, Texas; his father, Jesus H. Martinez of Hereford, Texas; his siblings, Jesse Martinez and his wife Dalia, Arturo Martinez and his wife Debra, Adalfo Martinez and his wife Terri, Antonio Martinez and his wife DeeDee, Jeannie Escobal and her husband Oscar, Elisa Martinez and her husband Cornelio, Lidia Olvera and her husband Joe all of Hereford, Texas., Gloria Garcia and her husband George, Sr., Lupe Martinez all of Amarillo, Texas.; his grandchildren, Addison Martinez, Ashton Martinez, Emily Martinez and Cesar Huerta. Numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother Ramona Martinez and an infant son Andrew James Martinez.
