Alice Ann Koenig, 93, longtime Hereford resident, was called home to the Lord, Wednesday, November 10, 2021, in Hereford. A Rosary is scheduled for 6:00 P.M., Monday, November 15, 2021, at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home, Hereford. A Viewing will be held from 3:00 -6:00 P.M. at the funeral home on Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial Service is scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Nick Gerber, parish Priest from St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hereford, will officiate as Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home.

Alice was born March 25, 1928, in Okeene, Oklahoma, to John and Helen (Korstjens) Paetzold. She met and fell in love with her husband of 68 years, Mark Anthony Koenig. They married on January 20, 1948, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, in Hereford. Alice was born the fifth child of ten children. Growing up on a farm south of Hereford during both the Great Depression and World War II, Alice's life was centered on her family, working on the farm, and going to church. After graduating high school in 1945, she moved to Amarillo to live with her older sister Eleanor. There she got her first chance to take a trip across our great country traveling by train to visit Niagara Falls, NY. She remembered never seeing so much water in her life before. While in Amarillo, she worked for Consumers Cooperative, this is where she met Mark her future husband, on December 13, 1946- which was a Friday- this is why she always loved Friday the 13 ^th . Not having a car, she rode the bus to and from work every day. During these daily bus rides, she and Mark sat together and got to know each other. The bus rides led to dating. Later when Alice's mom got sick, she moved back home to help take care of the family. The bus rides continued, but they were not as much fun as before, as both Mark and Alice rode the bus alone back and forth from Amarillo to Hereford to visit each other. After they were married, they moved into a small house on her father's land where Mark went to work as a sharecropper; and Alice began raising her family of nine boys. Through the years Alice became known for her artistic skill as a landscape painter and as a cake decorator. She spent many years as a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Thrift Shop and decorating Christmas trees that were auctioned to support the Senior Citizens Center. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen (Korstjens)Paetzold, five brothers (George, Bud, Raymond, Bill, and Walter), her sisters Rosella Mae and Eleanor, her oldest son Richard and her husband Mark. She is survivied by two brothers Jim and Bob Paetzold; her oldest son's wife Nancy of Berkley California and eight sons; Daniel and wife Julie of Las Cruces, NM, Philip and wife Nora of Hereford, Wayne and wife Donna of Williamsburg, VA, Gregory and wife Bonnie of Sherman, TX, Jerome and wife Brenda of Hereford, Matthew and wife Julia of Cambridge, OH, Alan and wife Crystal of Ooltewah, TN, Timothy and wife Shelly of Greely, CO; 25 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
