Alice Chavarria, 83, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas.

Alice was born on July 15, 1942, in Marlin, Texas, to John and Anita (Juarez) Chavarria. She grew up and attended school in Waco, Texas. Alice later moved to Hereford and then to Amarillo; she worked many years as a beautician and hairdresser. She enjoyed shopping, looking her best, visiting her friends and family, and telling stories to her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed cooking new recipes and sharing them with her family. Alice loved animals and her dogs, Fanny Mae and Angela.

Alice had a strong and devoted faith and was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and later St. Mary's Catholic Church in Amarillo. She often visited the Franciscan Sisters of Mary Immaculate and cherished their time together.

Those left to cherish Alice's memories are her sisters, Minnie Romo and her husband Raymond of Hereford, Texas, Annie Brown of Austin, Texas, and Lea Hendrick and her husband Jimmy of Amarillo, Texas; brothers Robert Chavarria and his wife Cathy of Dallas, Texas, and Cruz Chavarria and his wife Mary of Dallas, Texas; her nieces and nephews, Cynthia Lightsey (Troy), Raymond Romo Jr. (Kristy), Stephen Romo (Amanda), JoAnn Serrano (Lou), Westley Brown (Whitney), Amanda Davis, John Tice (Dawn), Kellie Sweeden (John), Shelley Geddie (Luke), Sandy Chavarria, Bob Chavarria, Christine Kounty (Joseph), Lisa Longoria (Derrick), Denise Chavarria, and Cruz Eric Chavarria (Britney); and numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Anita Chavarria, brother John Chavarria, brother-in-law Joe Brown, and sister-in-law Kathy Chavarria.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Alice to St. Anthonys Catholic Church, 114 Sunset Dr., Hereford, Texas, 79045.

The Rosary will be recited on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home, with a visitation from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM Friday afternoon at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hereford with Celebrant Grant Spinhirne. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford.
