Agapita G. "Tia Pita" Peña, 90, of Hereford, Texas passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 in Hereford. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 12, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Ramon Molina officiating. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Burial to follow at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Hereford. A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 1:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home with rosary beginning at 6:00 P.M. We ask that you please wear a mask provided by you if attending the visitation, rosary, or mass. Your health and safety matter to us.

Agapita was born on March 24, 1930 in San Luis, Potosi, Mexico to Jose Carmen and Prisciliana (Cervantez) Gallegos. She married Carlos Peña on February 2, 1951 in Weslaco, Texas. Agapita worked as an Avon Sales Representative for 50 years and received many awards. She also worked 5 years as a Home Health provider for the elderly. She attended ESL night school. Agapita was very active in the Catholic Church and was a member of St. Martin de Porres of Weslaco, Texas. She served her church as a Cursillista, Guadalupana, Eucharistic Server, Lector, treasury committee member, visiting the sick, and at any capacity that was needed. She also served in other churches too. Agapita loved her dogs, "Chico and Pinguika". She also loved birds, and together with her husband they took care of many doves. Agapita enjoyed cooking, gardening and time spent with family and company. She was a very generous and loving person and cheerfully gave gifts to many.  Agapita will be dearly missed.

Those left to cherish her memories are brother Joaquin Gallegos of Amarillo, TX, nieces Carmen Torres and her husband Manuel of Amarillo, TX, Hope Garza and her husband Alberto of Hereford, TX, and Mary Obman and her husband John of Bushland, TX, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces, and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Carlos, brother Manuel F. Gallegos, and sisters, Tomasa Rodriguez, Guadalupe Reyes, Gavina Guillen, and Esperanza Herrera.
